    water
  • The "Euro-Bio" treatment system is based on a SBR (sequencing batch reactor) treatment unit. process is a form of activated sludge treatment in which aeration, settlement, and decanting can all occur within a single contained unit. In its basic version the unit has no moving electrical components. The necessary filling and removal of water is carried out via pneumatically operated lifting plant.
  • The process is divided into 5 basic cycles:

                         Fill - React - Settle - Empty - Rest

  • Fill:
Here the system is filled gravity (normally). Only when the fill level is reached in the preliminary stage will the next stage commence.

  • React:
Air is pumped in to the unit periodically via the air compressor which is contained in the control box. The aeration times vary during the cycle and remain on for 8 minutes and off for 2 minutes during the aeration stage. The air is diffused using a fixed membrane plate which allows the air to disperse more evenly throughout the react stage. The rising air bubbles create a water roll which mixes the basin contents of activated sludge and waste water. The mixed contents are allowed to settle out for 60 minutes before the next phase begins. This creates an activated sludge zone and a clear water zone.

  • Settle:
During this phase of rest lasting 60mins, the contents separate themselves horizontally into sludge and clear water. The larger particles settle out leaving a mixture of clear water and suspended solids. The clear water and suspended solids are then removed to the next phase by raising the pneumatically operated lifting device.

  • Empty:
The surplus activated sludge is then removed to the preliminary stage for storage. This is done by means of a lift operated by compressed air. The clear water is now safely removed to the percolation area by means of compressed air.

  • Rest:
Once the cycle is completed the unit rests (saving on running costs) until the level in preliminary stage is reached. The cycle then commences again.

  • Note:
During times of insufficient loads (holidays etc.), the sedimentation phase is automatically replaced by ENERGY CONSERVATION PROGRAM, this helps to reduce on running costs while ensuring that the micro-organisms in the unit are kept alive. The energy conservation program is only interrupted when the required filling level in the preliminary stage is reached.
